Geologists without Borders
is an initiative of the Czech
geologists through which they want to make the public aware of the geological environment where we all live.
The objective of the initiative is to spread knowledge and information in easily understandable, and where
possible even in a cheerful, form about this subject.
The goal of this initiative is to spread well established information which, because of its importance in
everyday life, deserves more attention among the broader public. The aim is not to offer new findings and
information for scientific community.
Our websites will offer information or advice in pictorial leaflets focused on:
- proper behaviour of people towards water and soil, not only during periods of droughts and floods
- how to take care of wells as a source of drinking water
- how to determine areas of landslides, rock collapse and earthquakes, together with possible methods to
moderate their effects and consequences
- how to eliminate the effects of asbestos and radon on human health
cultural features of the countryside, of geological and anthropogenic origin, and their influence on
the health and property of local inhabitants
- use of geological maps when buying a plot of land, or for safe construction of houses
- existence of geothermal resources in the vicinity of human dwellings
- making topics dealing with the relationship of man to inorganic nature more accessible to the public.
We hope that citizens, schools and eventually local administration or conservationists will find the
leaflets useful.
“Geologists Without Borders” is open to everybody who wishes to contribute to spreading such information
about the geological properties of the Earth.
This advice and information are only for general information and not intended for use in specific situations.
People should always seek expert advice before undertaking any works. Therefore, “Geologists Without Borders
is
not responsible for any prospective damage when the general approaches described are applied.
